Roofers Specialty — Insurance & Risk Management, powered by The Duncan Group

Risk Diagnostic

Before we ask an insurance carrier to evaluate your business, we evaluate it ourselves.

A structured review of coverage, operations, contracts, losses and exposures. It is an analysis, not a quote.

The premise

Roofing risk cannot be understood from revenue and payroll alone.

Roof system, project type, subcontractor controls, height, geography, heat application, open-roof procedures, contract structure, fleet practices and loss history can materially change the risk presented to an underwriter.

Two roofing companies with the same revenue and the same payroll can be entirely different accounts. The diagnostic exists to find those differences and document them before the market forms an opinion without them.

What we evaluate

Eight areas, reviewed in sequence.

Select an area to see the roofing-specific factors we work through.

What the current program actually covers.

We read the policies, not the proposal summary. Forms, endorsements, exclusions and limits determine what happens on the day of a loss, and roofing programs frequently carry restrictions the contractor has never been shown.

  • Policy forms and endorsement schedules by line
  • Open roof, water intrusion and residential restrictions
  • Subcontractor warranty and additional insured endorsements
  • Limits, retentions, aggregates and how they are shared
  • Umbrella attachment, capacity and following-form issues
  • Gaps between what contracts require and what the program provides

What we ask for

Scope depends on the size and complexity of the organization.

A regional commercial roofer and a multi-state platform do not submit the same package. We will confirm the list before you spend time assembling it.

  • Current policies and endorsement schedules
  • Five-year loss runs
  • Open claim detail
  • Experience modification worksheets
  • Payroll and revenue by classification
  • Subcontractor costs
  • Sample prime contracts and subcontracts
  • Certificate and compliance process
  • Safety manual and training records
  • Vehicle and driver schedules
  • Telematics reporting, where available
  • States of operation and project types
  • Growth plans and acquisition activity

What you receive

Findings you can act on, whether or not you engage us.

The diagnostic is an analysis of your program and risk profile. It is not an offer of coverage and does not obligate you to move your insurance.

  • Coverage gaps and restrictive wording identified in plain language
  • Exposure areas likely to attract underwriting scrutiny
  • Subcontractor and contractual risk-transfer weaknesses
  • Workers' compensation classification and experience modification observations
  • Fleet and driver risk considerations
  • A prioritized list of controls worth addressing before marketing
  • A market strategy recommendation for the next renewal

Request your diagnostic

Tell us about your roofing company.

An advisor will follow up to confirm scope and the information needed. Most diagnostics begin 90 to 120 days before renewal, but earlier is better when controls need time to change.

Submitting this form does not create an insurance relationship, bind coverage or guarantee eligibility. Information shared is used to evaluate and discuss your insurance and risk management needs.
