Roofers Specialty — Insurance & Risk Management, powered by The Duncan Group

Strategic Relationships

Specialization creates relationships beyond insurance.

Working exclusively with roofing contractors means we spend time around the other professionals who serve them — counsel, accountants, lenders, investors, safety consultants. When a client needs one, we can point to someone who already understands the trade.

What this is

A connector, not a service line.

Roofers Specialty does not practice law, provide accounting or tax advice, perform M&A advisory work, or deliver safety consulting. We place insurance and manage risk. What we can do is shorten the search when a client needs expertise we do not provide.

  • We make introductions when they are useful, not as a matter of course.
  • We are not compensated for referrals in a way that influences who we introduce.
  • You engage the other firm directly. The relationship is yours.
  • We stay involved only where insurance and risk are part of the question.

Introduction categories

Where our relationships tend to be useful.

Availability varies by geography and situation. We will say so when we do not have a relationship worth making.

Private equity

Firms actively investing in roofing and specialty trade contracting, who understand backlog, workforce and warranty exposure rather than treating roofing as generic construction.

M&A advisory

Advisors who have taken roofing businesses to market and can speak to valuation drivers specific to the trade, including revenue mix, recurring service work and loss history.

Legal

Construction counsel experienced with subcontract agreements, indemnity, lien rights, warranty claims, employment matters and construction defect litigation.

Accounting

Firms familiar with percentage-of-completion accounting, WIP schedules, multi-state payroll and the reporting surety and lenders expect from contractors.

Banking and surety

Lenders and surety relationships accustomed to contractor balance sheets, equipment financing and bonding capacity for growing roofing operations.

Safety consulting

Consultants who build fall protection, heat illness, hot work and supervisor training programs that work on a roof rather than in a binder.

Technology

Estimating, production, telematics and workforce platforms used by roofing contractors, including the systems that generate the documentation underwriters ask for.

Benefits

Employee benefits advisors handling hourly, seasonal and multi-state workforces where enrollment and eligibility rules are not straightforward.

Payroll and workforce

Providers that handle certified payroll, multi-state registration, classification detail and the reporting that surfaces again at insurance audit.

Succession planning

Advisors working on ownership transition, ESOP evaluation, family transfer and the insurance implications that accompany a change in control.

Roofers Specialty and The Duncan Group do not provide legal, tax, accounting, investment banking or securities advice. Introductions are informational. Any engagement with a third party is solely between you and that firm, and you should conduct your own diligence.

Transactions

Where insurance and the transaction meet.

When a roofing business is bought, sold or recapitalized, insurance becomes a diligence item rather than a renewal item.

  • Loss history and reserve development reviewed as an indicator of operating discipline
  • Completed operations and warranty exposure evaluated for work already in place
  • Subcontractor controls and contract terms examined for assumed liability
  • Experience modification and claims trend treated as a cost driver, not a formality
  • Program structure reset for the combined entity after close
